Get to know Reddit

Hello dear friends, I hope you're well.

In this post I want to introduce you to the fascinating website Reddit, where you can find everything under the sun.

So please stay with me through the rest of the post as we talk about this lovely site...

The first good thing about this site is that it isn't filtered or sanctioned in Iran! (Not yet, anyway!), so it opens easily and there's no need to do anything special.

Also, its very simple design, which isn't cluttered at all, doesn't distract you and makes it easy to focus on the content. This means that when we're using this website we can move very quickly and enjoy using it.

Reddit in general

In general, Reddit works like this: we have a personal profile, like on many other sites, and with it we can follow different people and groups, like their posts, comment on them and share them. These various groups on Reddit are really good: experts in those fields are active in them, and they have various moderators who keep an eye on the posts so that unrelated content doesn't get posted there. On Reddit these groups are called subreddits or communities.

Subreddits on Reddit

As I mentioned, these groups on Reddit are called subreddits or communities, because they can be made up of a huge number of people and aren't really groups. The good thing about subreddits is that you only see relevant posts, and each subreddit has its own particular rules that differ from other subreddits. These subreddits can range from simple things like gaming to more specialized things like mathematics, programming, mobile phone repair and so on.

For example, in the picture below you can see Reddit's PC gaming subreddit:

As you can see at the top of the picture, this subreddit is labeled r/pcgaming. The r/ is there to show that this is a subreddit. So wherever we see something starting with r/, we can tell that a subreddit is being referred to. Besides following these subreddits, liking and commenting, we can also post in them ourselves for others to see. Anyone who posts has to follow that subreddit's rules, which are usually written on the right side of the page:

Well, as you can see, this place is no good for people like me! Because of rule number zero, which says be civil!

So let's go somewhere else! :)

By the way, one point worth mentioning is that on Reddit we can create subreddits ourselves for others to come and join, and set rules for them just like other subreddits. Often many people who make software, a game, a product or whatever also create a subreddit for it on Reddit, so others can come there, ask their questions, talk about it and follow news and updates.

Users on Reddit

Just as you can see and follow subreddits on Reddit, you can also see and follow users, like on many other social networks.

On Reddit, users are marked with u/. For example, in the picture below I picked a user at random and took a screenshot of their profile:

As you can see, we can see the comments and posts this user has published. The more active a user is, the more Karma they get.

Summary

As you've seen, Reddit is a very compact website but full of all kinds of features, and if you go in yourself you'll see how many more features it has than what was covered in this post. In my opinion, on Reddit you can get into specialized topics more than on other social networks and be safe from the things that are annoying on other social networks, like spam and people showing off. It's also worth mentioning that Reddit is white by default, and I made my account dark. You can turn this on using the Night Mode option.

I hope you enjoyed this post and find interesting things when you visit Reddit!
